Presumably people have lived in that house for many years without any problems, and presumably there are others living in houses all over France that have roof tiles containing asbestos, although they have long since been banned. I am ignorant of these things and realise that it easy to become alarmist over the word asbestos so I would be grateful if anyone with knowledge of the issue could offer some advice.
This would obviously mean removing some of the tiles. This work would involve fixing plaster board and insulation under the tiles and replacing two skylights with Velux windows. But her intention is to convert it into living space, for which it would be ideal. This perhaps would not be a concern were she to do as the present owners do and hardly ever enter the large attic. I wrote to the kommune at the time asking if there's any risk, having not known anything myself back then they never replied. The tiles were very fragmented, and well, today I just found out that our roof tiles contain asbestos. The roof cleaners used high pressure jets, which broke some tiles that came loose and fell on our backyard terrace along with all the roof gunk we had to clean our terraces ourselves, by hand. A couple of weeks ago, some neighbours hired a roof cleaning crew for the entire area where I live (we suspect they were about to sell their own property and wanted the area to look good).
